Linux / UNIX

 ·  β˜• 1 min read

I use Linux/Unix since 1994. About the time when the first SuSE distribution came to life. Since then it was my workhorse in every possible situation:

  • private
    • Raspberry OS
    • Debian server
    • Mint
    • Ubuntu
    • CentOS
  • at work
    • AIX
    • Solaris
    • Debian

Here’s a brief excerpt list of the things I do / have done using Linux:

  • process automation (scripting, cron, scraping, …)
  • programming (Java, JavaScript, Perl, PHP, Python, bash, C, C++, Scheme, awk, SQL, …)
  • imap mail server
  • use free desktop software (Open Office, Firefox, Inkscape, Gimp, VS Code, VirtualBox, …)
  • Wiki setup (TWiki, MediaWiki, MoinMoinWiki)
  • network setup
  • firewall setup and configuration
  • dhcp configuration
  • ssh server
  • file server (nfs / samba)
  • print server (cups)
  • web server
  • data backup, restore, rescue
  • …

a typical desktop when working (2013):
Windows ... gets its own window:
